Here's Looking at You, LinkedIn Editor



I've been away on hiatus for a while, but today seemed like a good time to put on my grammar policeman's hat because I spied an error that seems to be on the rise: defaulting to 'here's' when we really need 'here are.'

Where does LinkedIn go wrong? Somewhere an editor should be slinking away with his tail between his legs. This headline links to a story on Inc.com, whose headline gets it right. So honestly, there's no excuse.

Quick rule:
  • The subject and verb must agree in number. Here's an apple. Here are some apples.
